In 1988 the Rose Hill Baptist Church, of Ashland Kentucky voted to sponsor a new mission in South Point Ohio. An exploratory meeting was held at the Holiday Inn in South Point, Ohio. The only room they had available that was large enough was the old bar room that had been closed for some time. This was where the First Southern Baptist Church of South Point, Ohio was born. A commitment service was held on a Sunday morning August 14, 1988. The church rented the South Point community building, located on Second Avenue West in South Point. Property was purchased at Collins and US 32 in 1989. On September 17, 1989 the first worship service was held in the new building. By June 30, 1995 the church had completed two new additions to the building, including a fellowship hall, additional Sunday school rooms and enlarging the sanctuary. The chapel constituted into a church on November 14, 1999, becoming the First Southern Baptist Church of South Point, Ohio. The Church is located on more than 4 acres near the intersection of US. 52 and the South Point, Ohio exit. The church continues the Southern Baptist Convention, The State Convention of Baptist in Ohio, and the Scioto Valley Baptist Association. In addition to this the church has participated in multiple mission trips, from international trips to North American Mission Board projects. God has been good to the congregation of First Southern Baptist Church of South Point and the church looks to many years of continued ministry.
